We build projects that improve the lives of Coloradans, particularly projects aligned with the strategic plans of state and local government entities.
We create relationships that are based on a shared passion for improvement and growth.
We bring a visual and participatory component to each one of our projects. This means we use Figma, Miro, Asana, Jira, and other industry-standard collaboration and design tools to communicate with our partners and stakeholders.
A State division with a four-month legislative deadline for a suite of new laws engaged Cornflower Labs and the Cornflower Modules product to deploy a custom form-based data collection, review, approval, and archiving pipeline. Cornflower delivered a fully-functioning production system within 2 months, including nice-to-have features in the initial launch. The result: Cornflower delivered the fastest and most complete client-facing data input, review, and processing system that the Division had experienced, and ensured agency compliance before a fast-approaching deadline.
In partnership with Cornflower Labs, an R1 research group was able to bring a bold vision for experimental research projects to life. Through close collaboration and an Agile project management methodology, Cornflower Labs delivered research tools both on mobile and web platforms that facilitated data collection, data access for relevant parties, and database design dovetailing with the team’s research priorities. In addition to the direct contributions to research projects, Cornflower’s management freed up the collaboration’s primary investigators to focus on their research projects, shifting their role from a manager and contributor to a Product Owner with a team at their disposal.
By engaging a custom version of an AWS-hosted platform, the Division realized significant process improvements, reducing manual errors to zero when updating permit assignments and freeing up staff to focus on higher-priority and higher-impact tasks. In addition, the Division was able to consolidate all of their permit data in a modern, cloud-based SQL database, moving to a shared, real-time permit management assignments system. One long-term effect of this integration was to enable up-to-date data analysis via SQL and visualization via Tableau. This helped Department decision-makers obtain direct insight into permitting assignment workflows, further reducing the need for Division staff to manually compile data and reports.
A workflow system for form design, data submission, data review, and approval, enabling low hosting costs and high flexibility.
Leveraging a safety-first approach, Cornflower Labs offers a Colorado OIT-hosted AI chatbot for government clients looking to provide a tailored, expert experience.
Design and development of interactive public tool for water sampling plan creation (GCP)
CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment)
A greenfield tool developed by Cornflower Labs and used by elementary schools and childcare centers (over 2,000) in the State of Colorado to select, document, prioritize, and test their water sources for the presence of lead. Subject matter areas contracted for this project included data architecture, data analysis, software development, user experience design, and user interview management.
UX/UI/Accessibility audit and redesign planning for MyBizColorado website (18F and USDS methods)
Colorado SIPA (Statewide Internet Portal Authority)
A comprehensive, human-centered analysis of Colorado's flagship business creation website, including interviews with 27 project stakeholders (including DOR, CDLE, OEDIT and SOS), statistical data analysis of user flow, qualitative analysis of over 1,000 user survey responses, auditing of technical and business processes, and visual redesign mockups. Project results included over 180 proposed usability and accessibility interventions, categorized by level of effort and paired with implementation documentation.
Design and development of environmental permit inspection management system (AWS, Azure)
CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment)
A fully-featured permit and caseload management system for environmental permitting and inspection needs. The project began with a discovery sprint, followed by in-depth user interviews, modern Scrum-based software development, frequent UX/UI testing, and ongoing change management as well as user and manager training.
